Visionaries have one thing in common. They see what others can’t or won’t, and then they take that vision and make something out of it. That “something” can be art, a film, a social movement, fashion, cars, a business, coffee, and even a hotel.

For years, investors and hotel brands didn’t give much thought to Brooklyn. Why build hotels there when Manhattan was the tourist hot spot of the New York City area? The folks at Wythe Hotel were visionaries. They saw the tides changing in Williamsburg and had the forethought to take advantage of it by converting a 116-year-old factory building into the Wythe Hotel in 2012, making it the first hotel in Brooklyn to capture what it is that visitors love about the borough.

They came. They envisioned. And now they’re conquering the Brooklyn hotel game one guest at a time.

This waterfront property has a mix of styles that play with modern art, a historic warehouse, and minimalist furniture. Take the rooms for instance; they feature custom beds made from the building’s reclaimed ceiling pine. Exposed brick walls contrast with printed wall paper, giving the minimalist space some character.

If views of the Manhattan skyline from rooms aren’t enough to entice you, perhaps the heated floors will or the in-room surround sound systems controllable by your iPhone. Maybe, it’s the simple things that Wythe Hotel provides in rooms like minibars and flat-screen LED HDTVs that will convince you to click the “book” button.

Wythe Hotel has more than just rooms to lock down travelers wanting to be inspired by the hotel’s vision. Pick up a free access pass to the Brooklyn Athletic Club and get a morning workout in before dropping by the Reynard, the on-site restaurant and bar for potato rosti or egg on a roll for breakfast. Whether you’re in Brooklyn for business or pleasure, there’s a subway stop that’s just an eight-minute walk away, making it easy to get to where you’re going after breakfast.

In the evenings, return for dinner at Reynard or just head straight to Ides Bar on the 6th floor for small plates, killer cocktails, and great views of Manhattan from the terrace. It can get pretty packed here on the weekends with locals, but guests get dibs on free spots at this happening bar via a simple reservation.

As Brooklyn grows, there will be other hotels that make their way onto the Brooklyn waterfront scene – and that’s great. But remember, the Wythe Hotel started it all. They came. They envisioned. And now they’re conquering the Brooklyn hotel game one guest at a time.
