Chicago To-Go: Cocktails & Coffee

With the weather starting to turn from "drink indoors" season to "drink outdoors" season in Chicago, it's going to be tough for all of us. Our favorite patios, gardens, and rooftops remain closed. Still, our cherished watering holes and caffeine outlets have us covered with takeaway options that will help until we can once again have a coffee meet-up or gather with a crowd under the sun, eating tacos and drinking cold lagers all afternoon.

Now is the time to step up and support the local shops that have given us a place to gather, enjoy food, drink, and socialize with our friends and family over the years. Our dedication now will help to ensure they are still here when this is all over. Here is our go-to list for to-go options across the Windy City.

COCKTAILS

Dorian’s

The Wicker Park cocktail shop with the small record store upfront is offering curated quarantine cocktail care packages as well as an a la carte menu with a variety of natural wines available for curbside pickup or delivery on Fridays and Saturdays. You can even order vinyl records to go along with your booze. Check the website for your options and reserve your pickup or delivery time.

Fridays + Saturdays (Delivery & Carry-out – see website to reserve)

Goose Island Brewpub

The brand that put Chicago craft beer on the map is offering a vast selection of its beer for sale in cans, growlers, and bottles to go, including several extremely rare variants of the famed Bourbon County Brand Stout. They also have a robust menu of a la carte food items and family meals. Everything is available for pickup only.

Wednesday-Sunday 11am-8pm

Bub City / Three Dots and a Dash

BBQ restaurant Bub City and tiki-bar Three Dots and a Dash have teamed up in River North to offer one of the most extensive menus of cocktails, full bottles of booze, and food in the city. From Three Dots and a Dash, you can order cocktail kits that serve up to 12, as well as tiki mugs and barware sets. Bub City is offering assorted bottles of whiskey, rum, vodka, and tequila for purchase.

Pro tip: Grab a three-bottle bundle of Bub City’s private select single barrel whiskeys at prices you’ll never see again and bottles you usually can’t buy.

Monday-Sunday 11am-8pm (Delivery & Carry-out)

COFFEE

Dark Matter Coffee

Local chain Dark Matter is open at all locations for curbside pickup and takeaway. To change things up a bit, we suggest visiting the chain’s Mexican drinking chocolate focused cafe, the Caravanserai, in Avondale.

Pro tip: Try the Mayan Mocha for a spicy kick to start the day. Dark Matter also ships all of its coffee beans as well as some of the best coffee-related apparel you’ll find.

Check website for individual location hours

Back of the Yards Coffee Co.

This community-focused shop is open daily for carryout and delivery through Uber Eats and GrubHub. They are offering their regular coffee menu as well as a select food menu. Back of the Yards is also shipping their locally roasted beans so you can make a great cup at home.

Pro tip: As the weather is getting nicer, we recommend grabbing a growler of cold brew to go.

Monday-Sunday 8am-4pm

Heritage Bicycles

A favorite shop combining two of our favorite things: bikes and coffee. Heritage is open at two of its seven spots for takeout and delivery. They have also started an initiative where customers can donate coffee and food to essential workers in Chicago to thank them for keeping us all safe.

Pro tip: Visit the Lakeview location and add your own personal message to the “We’re All in This Together” mural painted on the outside of the building. Give your fellow Chicagoans a few words of encouragement.

Monday-Sunday 8am-2pm

FIELD TIPS

There are so many great restaurants in Chicago, and we need to support them too. Here are a few to hit up…

Cruz Blanca Brewery & Taqueria – Mexican style craft beers brewed on-site, tacos, quesadillas, and tlayudas from celebrity chef and public television host Rick Bayless. Available for pickup and delivery.

Club Lucky – Chicago old-school Italian with hearty portions and also offering “quarantinis.” Available for pickup or delivery.

Lou Malnati’s – Chicago’s best deep-dish pizza. Enough said. Available for pickup and delivery.

JP Graziano Grocery – They’ve got lunchtime sandwiches covered. Just do it. Curbside pickup and delivery.
