New Orleans finds itself in an otherworldly battle with the haunting spirits that takeover the French Quarter, “witchcraft” that can only be described as a result of bars with no last call, and Voodoo dolls who have our names stitched on them after a night of too many Sazeracs. In such a malevolent war, it’s vital that we learn to fight the black magic with the brown. In this case, our mystical mojo comes in bags of locally roasted coffee, poured over for your sipping pleasure.

By nightfall, there we were again, barreling in for an espresso after too many vices at New Orleans cocktail bar Cure.

Mojo, a small-batch coffee roaster, cooks up beans for their three locations in the city, supplying locals and visitors freedom from any cobwebs left lingering from the previous night’s exploits. All three spots are neighborhood gems, making them the perfect places to grab some coffee, catch up with your amigos, or dive into the black and white print of New Orleans’s Gambit Weekly.

Though third-wave coffee has taking the south by storm, it’s nothing new for Mojo, as their coffee has moved on the Big Easy like a hurricane from the Gulf coast. Not only have they given the people of New Orleans a tasty cup of joe and a laid-back place to kick it, they’ve also stayed true to their Louisiana roots — they offer a liquid chicory to add to café au laits, proving that sometimes, all you need is a little southern tradition to really get your mojo back.

While prowling through the culture-filled streets of NOLA, we found Mojo to be more than just a caffeinated well to start our mornings; while it may have started as just that, it quickly became an afternoon hangout to regroup and go over our scout mission of the day. By nightfall, there we were again, barreling in for an espresso after too many vices at New Orleans cocktail bar Cure. No matter the time of day, we found this coffee house hard to resist, always returning, politely asking, and sometimes desperately needing a cup of one-mo-jo(e).
