Classic is defined as being of the first or highest quality, class, or rank. Something that is classic rarely goes out of style because it resists trends and stays true to time-tested methods, designs, and traditions. Stock Mfg. Co. is creating modern-classics in menswear with updated pieces that give a nod back to heritage designs. Stock is taking the classic forms and refreshing them by mixing fabrics in unique ways, modernizing the fit, and updating the styling. They are creating clothing that is completely original but still familiar.

Stock doesn’t do things that are easy or expedient. They make clothing built to last and that improves with time.

Classics begin and end with details. The details are what separate the garments found on the shelves of Stock Mfg. Co. from the mass-produced fashion found at the retail giants. Everything Stock creates is done with great attention to the finer points of each piece they construct. They sweat the small stuff. It could be the button stance on the placket of a reversible short sleeve shirt, the pocket welting, and zippers on their Japanese twill chinos, or the unique functional design of the aprons and uniforms they supply to each of their restaurant clients.

Stock doesn’t do things that are easy or expedient. They make clothing built to last and that improves with time. Such close attention to detail often means high prices, but Stock is doing this at a value that is unmatched. They have paid great attention to delivering an affordable product. Design, material sourcing, and manufacturing are all done in their factory and offices in Chicago. Everything is sold directly to the customer through their website or in the brick-and-mortar store. This vertical integration keeps costs down, enabling Stock to pass the savings on to their customers.

Stock is producing a varied line-up of clothing that includes: work shirts, popovers, short and long sleeve button-ups, henleys, coach’s jackets, parkas, denim jackets, twill chinos, t-shirts, and even some rad camp shirts. All are made with the best fabrics and with styling touches you won’t normally find in menswear. When you buy a piece from Stock you can count on it becoming a staple of your wardrobe.

The Stock Mfg. brick-and-mortar shop is everything you would expect from a brand that is so deeply invested in detail and quality. The large open space is a mix of concrete, brick, timber beams, black iron pipes, and cedar paneling and shelves. In the back corner you’ll find a comfortable lounge area appointed with black leather couches and a bar with two local beers on tap. Across from the lounge is a vintage AMF pool table where you’re welcome to try out your best Color of Money hustle on another customer in the store. Make Vincent and Eddie proud.

Stock Mfg. is carrying on a long tradition of making and creating in Chicago. They’re doing it with attention to detail and high-quality craftsmanship. The ghosts of Chicago’s manufacturing history would appreciate what Stock is doing to bridge the past into the present and on to the future.
