Bon Iver: For Emma, Forever Ago

It doesn’t get more mysterious, leaf-covered, dim-lit cabin vibes than Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago. In fact, the sound captured and froze in time exactly what was occurring. Broke, heartbroken, and lost, Justin Vernon dove back to his home sate in Wisconsin and spent an entire autumn and winter in his fathers hunting cabin. There he cut wood, drank, and wrote and recorded perhaps one of the most emotionally genius and artistic albums of the early 2000s. Deep, raw, and unconventional, this album is a masterpiece forged in the middle of nowhere. We couldn’t imagine a better Saturday Spin to kick off October.

Sigur Rós: Kveikur

Sigur Rós is more than just a band, it’s a heightened level of consciousness, a gift from earth to the universe. Never has a band in a smaller foreign language bracket inserted themselves into a global music scene as they have.  Birgisson, Sveinsson, Holm, and drummer Orri Páll Dýrason had constructed cosmic music out of a small quiet room, burgeoning melodies out of thin air for years. So when Sveinsson left the band in 2012, many thought it was the end. But the rebound album Kveikur was what many have claimed brilliant, more core driven, and aggressive, offering glacier rousing sounds. A perfect Saturday Spin to watch some raindrops fall down a window, or to coordinate a brisk run through the city.
