Nike Honors Jackie Robinson with the AIR GRIFFEY

AIR GRIFFEY X JACKIE ROBINSON

The Swingman is back, Aka, Ken Griffey Jr., seemingly everyone’s favorite baseball player of the past. His swaggy chains, confident grin, epic wall grabs, all set a new standard for the game of baseball. When it comes to the topic of change for Jr. and all baseball fans alike, the legend of Jackie Robinson also comes to mind. Jackie happens to be one of Griffey’s biggest inspirations and perhaps one of the most important athletes in sports history.

To celebrate these two incredible men, Nike is releasing the Air Griffey Max 1, complete with silhouettes to honor the legacy of Jackie Robinson. Though there isn’t a set release date as of now, it’s hard not to think the epic shoe will be dropping on April 15th, this upcoming Jackie Robinson Day. The upper part of the sneaker will display proudly the number “42” to keep up the tradition that Jr. helped start back in 1997 to honor Jackie. In sleek black with touches of white, the body of the sneaker holds a nostalgic 90’s ankle buckle and has air pockets that stretch towards the toe. The exclusive shoe release is as smooth as Griffey’s swing and no doubt a home run to start the MLB 2021 season, it also holds a reminder of how pivotal Jackie Robinson was for every black athlete to follow his courageous career.
