Mason & Rook is a modern boutique hotel grounded in classic style, sophistication and great hospitality. While many hotels fall short of delivering an exemplary experience, it hits the mark; People often return for the service and staff. And with a coinciding dedication to guest interaction, its communal atmosphere makes it the kind of place where strangers become quick friends: As Kerouac says, “The only people that interest us are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk . . .” CYTIES believes if the road’s calling, it’s good form to kick your boots up in fashion.

it’s chic, polished and relaxed, with an undeniable coolness stitched right in.

To any journeymen looking for an oasis in the middle of the pandemonium travel can provoke, we got you covered. Mason & Rook is nestled in an idyllic off-the-beaten-path location in the trendy Logan Circle neighborhood and offers the right amount of comfortable respite. With a cozy bar to complement, it’s quickly solidifying its standing as a local staple.

The sleek black and wood facade bleeds seamlessly into its interior. From inside, brilliant glass windows at the ground level showcase a street block that’s more Upper West Side than Northwest D.C. From outside, the windows provide a glimpse into an ornate lobby area, featuring multi-toned herringbone wood flooring, plush chairs, and a stone base-gold piece chess set. It’s drenched in just enough elegance while leaving the pretentiousness at the door. You should do the same.

The hotel is nothing if not consistent, inserting the same handsome refinement into its sleeping quarters. Inside the rooms, inviting accents of gold, auburn, green, grey and warm wood greet you. With collages of art and photography, the latest volume of Modern Luxury-DC, earthy tones and soaking bathtubs [if you’re lucky enough to score a higher-end accommodation], it’s chic, polished and relaxed, with an undeniable coolness stitched right in.

Upstairs, there’s an impressive rooftop pool and killer views of the District. In the summer, bring your fresh threads and swim trunks, because the best adventures arrive when preparation meets opportunity. And by the opportunity, we mean an unplanned raucous pool party.

Mason & Rook is popular with staycationers [giving it a great local vibe] and jet-setters seeking a longer stay. The hotel’s five to six o’clock wine hour is the perfect chance to exchange travel notes or get some insider recommendations of the best spots in town. It also borders the bustling 14th street stretch, so no need to stray far if you’re eager to stay close to your mantuary away from home.
