BY: Dakota Nate Contributing writerProudly exhibiting the trappings of a bygone era, Bandits sticks out like a sore thumb even in one of the most exciting and unpredictable cities in the world. 70s diner meets dive meets craft cocktail bar, an effortless blend of coziness and sophistication permeates around tufted booths and checkered floors with ease. The main dining room sits at the corner of Leroy and Bedford while two dining-car-esque seating areas straight out of a retro wet dream stand on either side of the main entrance.
An inventive bar program is run in tandem with a selection of elevated bar bites and mains that could get you going at the beginning of a night on the town, or bring you home on the tail end. Highballs, boilermakers, and “Dressed Up Beers” that drink like a michelada on steroids stack up against potable bangers like Bobby Wasabi: an Asian-inspired tiki dream with a strong backbone and an arsenal of bright flavors that features a house-infused green tea shochu and wasabi orgeat for a flavor-packed kick in the pants. Even if you weren’t around in the 1970s, no-frills offerings like picklebacks and shots of house-made cinnamon whiskey are bound to give your own sense of nostalgia a run for its money.
Signature dishes like their all-beef jersey dog and chickpea “tuna” melt seem to have quickly become fan favorites among dinner and late-night crowds – and with damn good reason. And can you say, loaded tater tots? Even better, every weekend at Bandits turns into a brunch oasis under the disco ball Saturday through Sunday from 12pm-4pm, where the drinks flow early and there isn’t a growling belly in sight once they’re done with you. Open 7 days a week with an ever-flowing fountain of hospitality, settle into your seat and let the good times roll.
