OUR ARTICLE
BY: Alex Temblador Contributing writerHe has his pal sitting across from him, his lady next to him, and an ale in hand. He sits on the patio chatting with his group, looking away, taking in all that’s around him – the large art mural on the wall, the thud of a sand bag hitting the cornhole board, another group nearby with their dogs in hand, and the faint smell of beer in the air. This atmosphere is comfortable, non-pretentious, relaxed, he thinks. He goes inside for another beer.
Perhaps, he’ll get one of their specialty brews on tap – King of Carrot Flowers or Chocolate Rye Scotch Ale. Why the hell not? Maybe he’ll order a flight. If anything, this spot has taught him to step out of his comfort zone, do something different, try something different. And isn’t that what we all want? Yeah, the Chocolate Rye will do.
He’s at Ratio Beerworks, Denver’s chill microbrew, a spot that’s brewing beer and a stronger sense of self.
Opened in 2015, Ratio Beerworks sits in RiNo (River North), the creative neighborhood of Denver. Picture old brick buildings awash in graffiti and art work, and a slew of galleries, breweries, restaurants and shops. The cracked sidewalks, the art, the brick – it all feels a bit grungy and young, a place where people can create, make, and enjoy and that’s how Ratio Beerworks fits right in.
There’s six flagship beers on tap and a creative selection of brews that rotate with the seasons and months.
The founders, Jason zumBrunnen, Zach Lowery and Scott Kaplan, wanted a place to bring beer and the creative atmosphere of RiNo together. This can be seen in a few ways. If it weren’t for the words “Ratio” painted on the side of the building or the noise from those on the patio, you might walk past what looks like another warehouse in RiNo as the front is plain and the ornate metal fence makes it difficult to see into the patio. The industrial warehouse look of the interior is complemented by craft tables by local woodworker Steve Fast of Fast Industries, while the bright lights sign of the beer selection and large hanging lamps draw the eye. There’s six flagship beers on tap and a creative selection of brews that rotate with the seasons and months.
With a lineup of live bands, events, or community activities, there’s nothing boring about Ratio. It changes and flows, like the colors of the indoor and outdoor art. Ratio is like the man who’s sitting with his lady, his pal, and taking in the scene, relaxing, engaging, and trying new brews. That’s what Ratio does. It lets you find a new you. And that’s a pretty good deal for a beer at a brewery.
