Huckleberry Coffee Roasters is a locally-owned Denver coffee shop with a flagship on Pecos Street and a small shop in the Maven Hotel. They roast all their coffee and offer a wide selection of coffee, teas, and snacks.

Doc Holiday of Tombstone? Correct! (If you don’t know that quote, we’ll forgive you – if and only if you promise to watch the film… like yesterday.)
Let’s lay the scene for you. Picture Tombstone, Arizona, home of the famous O.K. Corral gun shootout in the 1880s with Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. In the film, Tombstone, Kurt Russel, playing Wyatt Earp, and John Elliot, playing Virgil Earp, square off with the outlaw Jonny Ringo, played by Michael Biehn. Ringo wants to tussle with guns with the Earp brothers, but they’re not having it. As the Earp brothers walk away, Ringo yells, “Don’t any of you have the guts to play for blood?”
And that’s when Doc Holiday, played by Val Kilmer, says “I’m your huckleberry.” Chills travel down our arms at those words because its 19th century slang for, “I’m the right one for the job.” Doc Holiday’s famous Tombstone words echoes with us now when we think of Huckleberry Coffee Roaster in Denver. These guys, and we say this in our best Doc Holiday accent, are the right one for the coffee job.
Huckleberry started in 2011 and has since grown to include a flagship store on Pecos Street and a smaller shop in one of our favorite spots in Denver, the Maven Hotel. They’re serving up drip to stay and drip to go, lattes, cold brews, and a wide range of espresso-based drinks. Their teas are out of this world, as are their creative toasts and cereal (because we all could use a little nostalgia).
These folks roast their coffee and have a killer shop with an industrial vibe. We couldn’t help but run our hands over the slick white bar and peruse their for sale coffee bags before taking a seat at one of the many tables to chat, drink, and chill with our coffee of choice in hand.
There’s another scene in Tombstone, closer to the end, when Johnny Ringo, who is expecting to meet Wyatt Earp for a grand showdown, is surprised when Doc Holiday walks out from the shadows, once again repeating, “I’m your huckleberry.”
Like Doc Holiday in Tombstone, we repeat, Huckleberry is your huckleberry of the Denver coffee scene. And you better take our advice to heart – we play for blood.
