This year has been a doozy, to say the least. Amidst the hurdles, we here at CYTIES aimed to expand our Lifestyle section to keep our readers informed on interesting topics that apply to who we believe The Modern Explorer is. With the clock close to midnight, we are proud of the momentum that we are riding into the new year, and have some massive plans for ’21—just you wait. In the meantime, CYTIES Co-Founders Ryan and Travis are here to recap some of their personal favorite articles and features that appeared in the magazine this year.

FAVORITE ALBUM: KEVIN MORBY - SUNDOWNER

Hailing from the Lone Star State, in Lubbock, Texas, On October 16th Kevin Morby dropped Sundowner, and the soundwaves in the CYTIES HQ have not been the same since. Morby describes the album as “an attempt to put the Middle American twilight—its beauty profound, though not always immediate—into sound.” We couldn’t agree more.

BEST SIT DOWN: CHRIS BURKARD

Chris has set the bar for photojournalism—transcending it to an artistic medium like never before. He is in the most simple sense, a true American explorer. It was a hell of a time to catch up with Chris to talk about his insane year, his top gear, and how to stay creative and sharp. We’ve got an awesome slate of interviews coming up this new year, stay tuned.

BEST GARAGE ARTICLE: FERRARI 250 GT SWG BERLINETTA

When it comes down to it, we all know Ferarri is well, Ferrari. But the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta is an absolute wonder to the eye and a dirty dancer on the road. In 1961, it must have been seen as God’s greatest creation and in 2020, it was a saving grace offering a quick video ride that helped distract us from the wild antics of the year. Lot’s of new rides are on the way for ’21.

BEST CATALOG: NOVEMBER, FALL IN THE CITY

Catalogs were new to CYTIES this year. Something we’ve always wanted to do but had to find a way to fulfill our vision with a CYTIES vibe. Our favorite of the year was the November Catalog featuring the Buck Mason Alfa jacket, a few leather essentials from our boys at Bexar Goods, and that sleek watch from Timex. Keep on the lookout in 2021 for some exclusive CYTIES products to make the starting lineup.

BEST SPIRITS: SMOKE WAGON UNCUT/UNFILTERED

Batches of this very popular darling of the whiskey world are churned out regularly by the team at Nevada H&C, so proof and flavors change from batch to batch. But with every bottling, you can still expect big, rich, and bold Bourbon flavors of brown sugar, vanilla, spicy cinnamon, baking spices, and a dose of oak. This bottle was a pleasant spirit for us at CYTIES HQ, and will definitely be a staple in the winter.

BEST TRIP: LAKE TAHOE WITH TAYLOR STITCH

From fiber to final delivery, Taylor Stitch has grown to be a favorite of surfers, laborers, modern-day lumberjacks, and those heading to the boardroom. There are simply no constraints to where TS can go. We headed to Tahoe with a bag packed with Taylor Stitch essentials and outfitted the entire trip. Look for more epic trips with elite brands this next year with CYTIES, near and far.
