Be would make Common’s sixth album, and to many, was a comeback record after Electric Circus. The album was produced by Kanye West, who Common met in 96′ when West was still in high school. The title, Be, stands for “Be who you are”.

Invisible Man: Gordon Parks and Ralph Ellison in Harlem

Gordon Parks had no limit to his art and creativity, as a well known American photographer, he was also a musician, writer, and film director—particularly focused on issues of civil rights, poverty, and African-Americans. He was extremely close with Ralph Ellison, as they both shared a common vision of racial injustices, coupled with a shared belief in the communicative power of photography. They joined forces for an essay “Harlem Is Nowhere” in ’48 and worked together again on “A Man Becomes Invisible” in ’52. Invisible Man is the first publication on Parks’ and Ellison’s collaboration of these two projects, providing an in-depth look at the artists’ vision of black life in America, focused on Harlem as the exposed center of the struggle.
