BY: Ryan Kirk Contributing writerSimilar to its predecessor in Los Angeles, the San Diego location of Seven Grand does anything but disappoint. Just like in a library, wooden ladders border the shelves of this whiskey museum. From floor to roof, a comprehensive assortment of whiskey gives Seven Grand the right to bask in the glory of being the ideal place to sip on some of the finest premium whiskey in San Diego. Unlike a library, sound is never a concern; with live jazz and blues several nights a week, this isn’t the place to catch up on a Mystery novel.
A spot for the everyday 9-to-5 grinders, the innovators, and the take-life-by-the-antlers players.
Seven Grand is located in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego; a glowing yellow sign lights up University Ave. Inside, Seven Grand is decorated with deer lamps, vintage wallpaper, and buck heads that border the stained-wood walls. If the spirits and décor aren’t enough, grab a pool stick and challenge the boys to a game of billiards. Then again, if names like Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet, and Elijah Craig don’t make those antlers stand up, you’re probably in the wrong place anyways.
If you need some help ordering, we suggest you start with the Forged Oak 15-year-old bourbon. Forged Oak was founded while foraging through the historic Stitzel-Weller rickhouses. This Kentucky straight bourbon spent 15 years in charred American white oak. Bottled at 90.5 proof, Forged Oak is a statuesque whiskey with aromas of cedar, maple, and vanilla bean.
This is a spot for the modern-day gentleman, an individual who truly enjoys the beautiful taste of whiskey and the company of his peers. A spot for the everyday 9-to-5 grinders, the innovators, and the take-life-by-the-antlers players. If these personas don’t describe you, well, then, somewhere out there, a local grocery store has a six-pack of wine coolers with your name on it.
