Percy's & Co infuses a handsome and comfortable atmosphere with apothecary inspired cocktails. The vintage-inspired surrounding is accented with polished woods and hanging greenery -- simply fresh to death. The herbs and produce used for both the kitchen and the bar are grown on the roof. In Percy's words, "it just tastes better when you grow it yourself."

BY: Travis Platt Contributing writerDust off a historic memoir of Seattle and you will find that in the early days of the West, the town of Ballard, now one of Seattle’s most historic neighborhoods, had more bars than any other town west of the Mississippi River. Percy Sankey was the front-runner of this initial crusade, keeping early Seattleites happy and drunk through the long winters. Even the threat of prohibition didn’t stop Percy; the resourceful entrepreneur changed the name to Percy’s Men’s Furnishing and swung the back door open for its previous patrons.
The herbs and produce your spirits are infused with are grown on the rooftop garden and picked fresh daily, a luxury that the rain over this city creates for its inhabitants.
Percy’s & Co. is a celebration of the determined history of Ballard Ave. and is perhaps the best place to knock back the finest apothecary-style cocktails in town. Walking into Percy’s, it is hard not to notice the vibrant green ferns hung throughout the brick-and-glossy-wood-lined open space. The fluorescent green foliage is an immediate ode to the Pacific Northwest and a distinctive nod to the environment that makes the area so vibrant.
The ambiance reflects this — long communal tables stretch towards the patio, offering refuge for locals and nine-to-fivers to toast and share tales of the day. Don’t feel like posting up on a stool? Then settle into a booth and disappear into a boozy dinner from a southern-creole-inspired menu that constantly sets the bar high.
If you want an up-close-and-personal look at how the concoctions come together, grab a seat at the bar and watch the freshest ingredients unite in your glass. The herbs and produce your spirits are infused with are grown on the rooftop garden and picked fresh daily, a luxury that the rain over this city creates for its inhabitants.
Head out to the patio to listen to the raindrops hitting the canopy overhead and complement the warmth of your whiskey with a deep breath of brisk Seattle air. It’s the same air that has kept the ferns so green and has lured so many steadfast travelers to the welcoming streets of Old Ballard.
